The Macreddin area is a haven for walkers of all interests. Whether it’s a gentle wander on the quiet country roads, a walk along Macreddin Pure Mile  or a more adventurous hike up Cusbawn Hill / Macreddin Rock – it is all on your doorstep.

Macreddin is also just a short drive from the Wicklow Way route and we can arrange pickups and dropoffs from the closest points. The Wicklow Way is a 132km staged walk through the county of Wicklow, starting from Marlay Park in Co. Dublin and stopping in Clonegal in Co. Carlow. It offers varied and scenic walking in the valley of the Wicklow Mountains and is not to be missed.

Just a short drive away, there are 2 fantastic wooded walks: The Sean Linehan Walk, and The Ciaran Shannon Walk. Jim’s Way is a one mile loop, which starts at the Square in Aughrim Village, and passes an impressive cross, erected to mark the Year of the Family and the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland. The view of Aughrim from the cross is spectacular and a must see.

Avondale Forest Park, Rathdrum has over 500 acres of wooded land with a variety of trails for walking and cycling. The Railway Walk links the park directly into Rathdrum. Avondale Forest Park Run takes place here every Saturday morning at 9.30am.

“We stayed here on a walk of the Wicklow Way. Proprietors offer pickup and dropoff at the trail. The room was quiet and comfortable, and they made sure we had everything we needed for the night and the morning. Breakfast was very good. There is a hotel with a pub just a few minutes’ walk down the road
